Kall Morris Inc. recognized with Best Small Business Award

MARQUETTE — Kall Morris Inc. has been recognized as one of the 2022 awardees for the Best Small Business Award, presented by Michigan Celebrates Small Business. KMI will be acknowledged on stage at the in-person awards ceremony during the 18th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Gala on May 3.

The event will gather over 800 guests at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan to celebrate the achievements of this year’s award recipients.

“KMI is the collaboration of hard work, good ideas, and great diligence in pursuing the goals of our shared future. Our team does this in partnerships across the aerospace industry and academia, in the state and around the world, from new internal designs and combining with established excellence,” co-founder Troy M. Morris said in a statement. “To be recognized for a Best Small Business Award is an honor for the co-founders, our team of employees, our partners, as well as all of our supporters, advisors, and mentors. Our spacecraft for clearing orbital debris won’t reach space alone, and likewise we’ve reached this success because of the shared and united efforts toward keeping space clear for all.”

KMI is an orbital debris research and solution development company focused on Active Debris Removal for keeping space clear for all. With proprietary software, exclusive hardware, and critical partnerships, KMI aims for a commercially viable system for ADR of legacy assets: significant debris objects that are often unprepared, uncontrolled, and potentially unrecognizable. KMI, located in Marquette, was formed in November 2019 by three Northern Michigan University alums.

It’s been a tumultuous landscape for business owners, but over the last two years, small businesses have learned to become nimble and innovative in order to accomplish their goals. The 2022 awards gala will put Michigan’s small businesses in the spotlight and give them a chance to share their success stories with the supporters who helped them get to where they are today.

“MCSB has always prided itself on its spirit of collaboration and celebration,” said Jennifer Deamud, MCSB board chair, in a statement. “We love seeing our awardees celebrating one another’s success and sharing in this amazing moment is each awardee’s journey. It’s true — success is best when it is shared.”

Companies nominated for the Best Small Business Award must be Procurement Technical Assistance Centers, Small Business Development Centers, or SmartZone headquartered in Michigan.

Awardees in this category are selected based on the following:

≤ Demonstrated growth as a small business

≤ Embodiment of the American entrepreneurial spirit

≤ Strength of the relationship with the SBDC, PTAC or SmartZone
