State: Iron, Dickinson each add another virus death

IRON MOUNTAIN — State data Friday showed 40 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and 19 in Iron County in the past two days, along with another virus-related death in each county.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 400 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 85 in Marquette County, 76 in Houghton County, 43 in Delta County, 40 in Dickinson County, 31 in Chippewa County, 24 in Menominee and Gogebic counties, 19 in Iron County, 18 in Mackinac County, 12 in Alger County, nine in Keweenaw County, seven in Schoolcraft County, six in Luce County, four in Baraga County, and two in Ontonagon County. The state added two more deaths blamed on the virus in both Delta and Mackinac counties, plus one each in Dickinson, Iron and Chippewa counties; Gogebic County’s toll was reduced by one.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 33,415 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 593 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 333 confirmed cases and 42 probable, and eight confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 419 confirmed cases and 474 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 620 confirmed, 77 probable and 23 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 651 confirmed, 357 probable and four deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 753 confirmed cases and 321 probable, six deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,020 confirmed cases and 534 probable, 15 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,203 confirmed cases, 205 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,569 confirmed cases and 180 probable, 55 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,744 confirmed cases and 425 probable, 26 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,923 confirmed cases and 2,729 probable, and 48 deaths, 10 probable; Menominee County, 2,890 confirmed cases, 1,032 probable and 49 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,458 confirmed cases and 1,288 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 4,504 confirmed cases, 838 probable, 51 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 5,461 confirmed cases and 1,242 probable, 105 deaths and 20 probable; and Marquette County, 6,867 confirmed cases, 1,554 probable and 84 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS had 18,443 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 9,222 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,336,566. The state since Wednesday has added 277 deaths attributed to the virus — including 169 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 24,367.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had 35 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 18 in Vilas County, 14 in Forest County and one in Florence County; Iron County’s count was lowered by three. Marinette County had another death.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 6,854 confirmed cases, 1,341 probable cases and 74 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,291 confirmed, 181 probable and 58 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,617 confirmed, 139 probable and 29 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 784 confirmed, 196 probable and 22 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 582 confirmed, 142 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data showed 4,295 more positives in the state Friday for a total of 889,079 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 35 more virus-related deaths Friday to reach 9,128.
