Chamber Chat: Last-minute holiday shopping, the west end has you covered

Alastar Dimitrie, coordinator, Marketing and Events, GINCC

When it comes to holiday shopping, last-minute doesn’t have to be last-resort — especially with so many unique, locally owned businesses.

It’s now officially too late for most online orders to arrive before Christmas, but local retailers are here to help. Many GINCC members, like Wattsson & Wattsson Jewelers and Main Street Antique Mall have expanded holiday hours to make it easier for you to come in and get what you need.

White Bear Maple Products & Gifts has something for everyone from sweet treats to sea urchin Christmas tree ornaments.

Rare Earth Goods is a must-stop shop for local artwork, clothing, fancy cheeses and a selection of high quality beers and wines among lots of other unique gifts.

Many retailers are offering holiday specials. Time Flies Quilt and Sew LLC is offering 25% off all presser feet, big books (feet, embroidery, serging, machine quilting, longarm quilting) and embroidery hoops.

Love and Bicycles has a wide range of gifts that cyclists are sure to love. They are also the primary Michigan dealer for products by Sturdy Bag Designs, including some that were custom crafted for Love and Bicycles.

West End Ski & Trail is a performance bike shop that also caters to Nordic skiers. West End Ski and trail recently moved into a beautifully renovated storefront in Ishpeming.

If you’re looking for a gift for the outdoor lover in your family, stop by Wilderness Sports, which offers a wide selection of gear for all kinds of outdoor activities. From disc golf discs and accessories to fish finders, Wilderness Sports has something for every outdoorsperson.

No discussion of holiday shopping would be complete without mentioning Da Yoopers Tourist Trap, voted Best Gift Shop in Michigan in 2015. Some of their products are humorous, some are practical and all are one of a kind.

All of these businesses and more are here to help you with your holiday shopping. By shopping local, you are supporting your local economy at the same time as finding truly memorable gifts. For a full list of GINCC member businesses, visit gincc.org/member-directory/.
