Fire causes damage to Calumet business

CALUMET — Calumet Township Fire and Rescue and deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday night.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, firefighters from Calumet Township extinguished the blaze. While arson is not suspected, the incident remains under investigation.

Mercy Ambulance and the Upper Peninsula Power Company assisted at the scene, which was believed to have been taken care of.

However, at some time again Tuesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office, Calumet Fire and Rescue, along with Calumet Village Fire Department and the Laurium Fire Department were called back to the scene as the fire had reignited.

The fire apparently reignited between the walls and in the ceiling.

Fire officials from Calumet Township Fire and Rescue declined any comment at the scene. No injuries were reported at either incident.
