1 dead in Sagola Township fire

IRON MOUNTAIN — One person is dead following a residential fire in Dickinson County which took place Sunday afternoon.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post responded to a report of a residential fire around 4:06 p.m. along M-95 in Sagola Township, a press release states. The fire was discovered by a relative who attempted to enter the home, but suffered smoke inhalation, according to police.

Authorities found the resident dead and said it was a result of the fire. According to the MSP Negaunee Post, the victim was an elderly female who lived in a trailer on her son’s property.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing. Police said the name of the victim will be released once next of kin has been notified.

The Sagola Township Fire Department, Breitung Township Fire Department, Alpha-Mastadon Fire Department, STAR Ambulance, Aspirus EMS, Integrity Ambulance, We Energies and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department assisted on the scene.
