MARQUETTE — The Marquette Schools and Marquette Area Chamber of Commerce have agreed to a formal partnership expected to benefit the schools and local businesses.

District Superintendent Tom Gill said such partnerships are becoming common at “most of the good schools across the United States.”

He said the cooperative arrangement will start out small with a career education workshop in which local businesses explain their professions to students. In other instances, local businesses have encouraged quality in local education by offering tours and creating scholarships or awards for such things as high attendance.

Gill said the partnership with the chamber won’t cost the school district anything and will cost businesses very little. Cooperative arrangements would benefit the businesses in terms of recruiting, training, and advertising, he said.
