Drowning claims life in Escanaba

ESCANABA– A 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found floating face down in the Escanaba Harbor near Water Plant Road around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The man, identified as Anthony McCullogh of the Hannahville Tribal Community, was found just off shore east of the Escanaba Harbor Master building, police said in a press release.

Officers were able to pull his body ashore and confirm his identity, pronouncing him dead at the scene.

He was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital by Rampart EMS until notification of family could be made, according to the Escanaba Department of Public Safety.

McCullough “appears to be a victim of accidental drowning, but investigation continues in trying to determine where Mr. McCullough may have been seen prior to his death,” police said in a press release. Foul play is not suspected in this matter, according to officials.
