1 dead in Menominee house fire

MENOMINEE — One man was pronounced dead after a structure fire occurred in Ingallston Township Tuesday.

Deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff’s OFFICE responded to a report of a fire around 3:12 p.m. It was believed the homeowner was still inside. An investigator and deputy arrived on scene and observed flames in the basement of the residence and the entire house overcome by smoke, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The Menominee-Ingallston Township Fire Department with mutual aid from Mellen Township Fire Department battled the fire and made entry into the residence where they discovered a male victim inside. The victim was rushed to Aurora Medical Center Bay Area where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies and an investigator from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Menominee-Ingallston Township Fire Department, Mellen Township Fire Department, Aurora Medical Center Bay Area Paramedics, Michigan State Police Fire Inspector and Accelerant Detection Canine, WPS, Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
