Rock and Run set for Saturday

ST. IGNACE — The 2018 St. Ignace Rock and Run will take place Saturday in downtown St. Ignace.

This event includes a half-marathon and a 5-K run/walk. In addition to the picturesque landscape along the waterfront, the longer route includes a portion of the North Country Trail and also a small jaunt through the Straits State Park.

Those interested can contact Kim North at 906-328-0006.

Participants can still register for either event. Whether running or walking, everyone gets a Rock and Run T-shirt. Medals will be given out to all those who finish. Each event starts and finishes at Star Line Dock 1 on South State Street. The Half-Marathon begins at 8 a.m.; while the 5-K gets underway at 9 a.m. More than 100 have pre-registered. Organizers are hoping for a record number of close to 200 to be on the course this year.

Online registration is available: click on the EVENTS tab at www.mackinacstraitshealth.org. Cost for the half-marathon is $45, and the fee for the 5-K run or walk is $25. Participants can actually pick up their shirts, race numbers and goody bags the day before.

Organizers will be under the tent at the Star Line Railroad Dock on Friday, May 18, from 4-6 p.m.

Proceeds from the Rock and Run help the Mackinac Straits Health Foundation, whose goal is to support the Mackinac Straits Health System in its mission is to provide quality health care to the families and communities in the Straits Area.
