‘Good Trouble’ protests set for Thursday

The website, goodtroubleliveson.org, states that “Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration. Together, we’ll remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.”
Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, “Good Trouble” is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.
The civil rights leaders of the past have shown the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all, the website states.
Locally, stand up protests are planned in Ishpeming, Negaunee and Marquette. Some of the locations are as follows:

• Negaunee on U.S. 41 in front of Miners Park near Maas Street
• Ishpeming on U.S. 41 in front of the Great Lakes Recovery Center
• Marquette on U.S. 41 Iron Ore Heritage Trail overpass near the Holiday Inn
• Marquette on U.S. 41 South near Econo Lodge and the Birchy Lodge
• Marquette on the McClellan Avenue overpass
• Marquette on the Altamont Street overpass
There will also be a rally and potluck picnic at the Jackson Mine Park in Negaunee. The event, which is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will feature music and public speakers. People are encouraged to bring a chair and a dish to share.
