Dr. Dexter Clark named new faculty member

Dr. Clark

MARQUETTE –The Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program is pleased to  welcome Dr. Dexter Clark, DO, as its newest faculty member.

Clark began his new position as an assistant director Monday. His role will include patient care  at the outpatient clinic and teaching and supervising residents in the outpatient medical office including osteopathic medicine techniques, the inpatient units and on the OB floor.

With a multitude of work experiences in health care, Clark is poised to make significant contributions to the program.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Clark joining us as faculty,” said Dr. Brian Waite, program director of the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program. “He has a long history of providing both patient care and education due to his past experiences as a paramedic and an EMS  instructor. He will be a great and natural fit in his new role.”

During residency, Dr. Clark worked on the development of the osteopathic education curriculum and ways to improve the osteopathic electronic medical record. He also serves on the hospital emergency response committee.

As a native of Skandia and lifelong resident of Marquette County, Dr. Clark is fulfilling his desire to practice family medicine in the Upper Peninsula.

“I am excited to begin my new role as a full spectrum family doctor in the place my family calls home,” said Clark. “I am honored to join with the same respected faculty that helped shape me as a clinician in educating future generations of physicians.”

Dr. Clark graduated from the residency program this June. He received his professional doctoral degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed his undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University and previously worked as a paramedic and a hyperbaric technician.

“I have known Dr. Clark for many years,” said Dr. Stuart Johnson, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine community assistant dean and chief executive officer of the Upper Peninsula Education Corporation in a press release. “We’ve had many conversations from his pre-med days, through medical school, and residency. He is one of the brightest, yet humble, and compassionate physicians that I know, I am thrilled that he will be joining our faculty team.”

Dr. Clark will be seeing patients at the Family Medicine clinic at the Peninsula Medical Center, 1414 W. Fair Ave., Suite 36 in Marquette.
