City of Negaunee celebrates senior center grand opening

The Lake Superior Community Partnership recently assisted the City of Negaunee with a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the grant improvements made at the Negaunee Senior Citizens Center and surrounding area. The City of Negaunee was awarded a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation back in 2020.The grant funds allowed the center building to undergo major updating and renovations, including a complete remodel of the kitchen, a fully accessible bathroom, front desk upgrades and a janitorial closet. It also included an overhaul of the exterior facade, including added stone work and new siding, the addition of an automated door entrance on Tobin Street and more. The project also included updating the parking available around the Center, with improvements to a sewer main. The total grant awarded was $542,866, with more than $215,000 going toward renovating the Senior Center building itself.
