MARQUETTE — Edna Johnson celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec. 16.

Johnson was born in Toledo, Ohio, and is the eldest of eight siblings. She loved to bird hunt and met her husband of 50 years, John Johnson, while hunting. They were married in 1949 and had four daughters, who they raised in Temperance, Michigan.

She loves children, and worked as a school janitor at Ida Elementary School for many years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and horseback riding. She was, and still is, very fond of all animals. Particularly Buster, a Jack Russel Terrier, who held a special place in her heart. The neighborhood kids even taught Buster how to play basketball.

Johnson never stopped hunting. At 90 years old, she shot a deer with a crossbow. She lived independently until she was 95, and moved to the Upper Peninsula in 2015.

Today, Johnson spends her days with her friends at Mill Creek Senior Living Community. Two of her daughters live in the Upper Peninsula, and she has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She enjoys visits from her family members and meal times. She likes a good dessert, Kentucky Fried Chicken, onions in all forms, and homemade pickles.

Her life advice is, “work hard and play hard.”

Happy birthday Edna Johnson!
