HOUGHTON — This past week members of Scout Troop 207 and members of the community helped one Scout with this Eagle Scout Project.

The team worked on eight benches and two raised garden beds to create an outdoor classroom area for the Houghton Elementary School. A place for students to escape the classroom on a nice day and explore the outdoors.

“The Scouts worked really hard this week to complete this project,” said Scout Master Dale Damsteegt. “I am really proud of our Eagle candidate and all the Scouts for their hard work.”

The project is one of the last steps before earning the highest rank in Scouts, which is Eagle. The project requires the Scout to work with a community group to improve the area in which we all live. The Scout must plan the project, raise the funds if needed, and recruit volunteers to help make the project come to life.
