A Marquette native, Dan was known locally for his presence on Marquette’s music scene as a performer of what he calls “Home-Made” songs. He is known not only for releasing a CD project every two-three years on his Indy label, but also as a founding member of Marquette’s American-Irish band Foreign Born Irish.

An NMU alumnus (1988 and 2004), Dan left the area in 2006 to pursue a career in education. In addition to being a performer and recording artist, Jimmy/Dan is an alternative educator currently working as a behavior coach in The Wildcat Academy of Henry County High School in Newcastle, Kentucky.

“I don’t play music to impress or ‘big time’ anybody. My co-workers don’t even know that I have a band or have records out,” he said in a press release. “My life is a series of small but significant victories. I help young people as I was helped, and I write and record because it is a type of work that I enjoy. I think ‘follow your dreams’ as a stand-alone motto is poor advice. ‘Find work that you enjoy doing well and finish what you start’ is about the only wisdom I can impart. Whether I’m teaching kids social-emotional skills or playing music, doing these things on my own terms and in my own unique way influences others to have fun and live boldly and fearlessly.”

Currently performing out of the Louisville/Cincinnati region, this homecoming marks 15 years since he journeyed back to Marquette to play at Upfront and Co. in 2007. This event will be accompanied by the release of his 10th album: “Tales from the Skeeter Davis HWY.” The new release, in CD format, can be attained by donating $15 to Carroll County Animal Shelter in Carrollton, Kentucky.
