MARQUETTE — Hiawatha Music Co-op is sponsoring two events featuring live music in the month of April.

Hiawatha on Tap will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at Ore Dock Brewing Co., 114 W. Spring St. in Marquette. ODBC also co-sponsors HOTAP.

April’s show will feature Ruth and Max Bloomquist, folkies of the most authentic kind. Ruth’s award-winning abilities as a songwriter and singer are accented by Max’s harmony and touch on the upright bass, a release from Hiawatha said.

With influences of folk, bluegrass, and country, they have created a heart-touching, audience-pleasing acoustic Americana that is all their own. Ruth’s trademark rich alto is unmistakable, and her songs evoke images and emotions common to us all.

Their song “Michigan Girl” is approaching 400,000 views on YouTube. Have a listen for yourself: https://youtu.be/yMVG4TJL0lE

Hiawatha Music Co-op members pay $5 at the door and non-members pay $10. Kids 12 and under are free.

Complimentary pizza is provided by Mainstreet Pizza and Hiawatha.

Live at The Fold will be held on Thursday, April 20 at Hiawatha’s office and community music-making space called “The Fold.”

Located at the Village Shopping Center, 1015 N. Third St. in Marquette, The Fold makes for a wonderful, cozy space for listening to live music, the Hiawatha press release said. This month’s show features Michael Waite and friends. Come at 7 for the music, or come early for a social time of BYO dinner with friends and family. Doors open at 6:15. Reserve a half or full table by calling 906-226- 8575 or emailing Hiawatha at hiawathamc@gmail.com. Suggested donation: $5 per person. More is always welcome.

“What is a fold?” Many have asked. From the American Heritage Dictionary: A fold is “any group of people bound together by common beliefs and aims, or by mutual loyalty.” It is the mutual love of traditional music that brings folks together at the Hiawatha space.

The Hiawatha Music Co-op is organized exclusively to provide and promote traditional American music, educate and inform society on traditional American music, and encourage the appreciation of such music through the facility of an Annual Traditional American Music Festival. It exists to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and for the promotion of social welfare.

Starting at $4.00/week.
