Marquette Memory Box

MARQUETTE — The city of Marquette Arts & Culture Division, together with the Peter White Public Library and Marquette Poets’ Circle, invites the community to submit performing, visual, and/or written art to the Marquette Memory Box.

The Memory Box was started as a way for folks of all ages in our community to reflect on what they’ve been doing, how they’ve been feeling, the stories of their days, who or what they miss, and what they have discovered during the COVID-19 pandemic and social justice movements.

≤ Visual art will be shared via Marquette365 on a brand new Community Art Wall. To submit visual art to the gallery, email a clear scan or photograph of your artwork to MQTMemoryBox@gmail.com, along with your name as you’d like for it to read, any links to your artist page(s) (if applicable), and an artist statement about the piece and/or a reflection on how the pandemic has affected your creative practice or inspired your artwork.

≤ Spoken word and interviews will be compiled into a podcast, hosted on anchor.fm and disseminated to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast services. Have a poem or story you’d like to share? Please contact MQTMemoryBox@gmail.com to coordinate a podcast episode.

≤ Written work, including stories and poems, will be available for viewing via www.pwpl.info. Written work can be submitted via a jot form, also available on PWPL’s website.

≤ Videos of performing arts (dance, music, comedy, animation, etc.) will be uploaded to the Memory Box YouTube channel. Submissions to the YouTube channel can be sent to MQTMemoryBox@gmail.com. Please include the video file, a description of the video, and a reflection on the inspiration for the video and/or how the pandemic has affected your creative practice.

Compilations will be updated regularly as submissions come in. The City of Marquette Arts & Culture Center and its partners reserve the right to exclude any content deemed inappropriate or irrelevant to the project.

For more information on the Marquette Memory Box, please contact Tristan at tluoma@marquettemi.gov or 906-225-8655.
