New resident physicians welcomed at UPHS-Marquette

MARQUETTE — UP Health System-Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program has six new physicians. On July 1, the program welcomed Nada Attia, MD; John Bradtke, MD; Ellen Cravens, DO; Brittanie Floyd, MD; Claire Spivey, DO; and Chelsea Travis, MD.

“This is always an exciting time of year for us as we welcome six new residents to our family,” said Interim Program Director Suzanne Clarke, MD. “We are looking forward to the next 3 years and sharing the journey with each of you!”

Residents across the country are matched into residency programs through the National Resident Matching Program, which places applicants into residency and fellowship positions based on mutual rankings.

Residents received their degrees from the following medical schools.

The UPHS-Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program is an unopposed Family Medicine residency program based in Marquette. The community-based, three-year training program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education with osteopathic recognition following the American Board of Family Medicine guidelines. Graduates of the program are qualified to manage the full spectrum of family medicine.

The Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program was founded in 1979 to provide young physicians with medical experience in the rural setting. This year, 234 resident physicians will have graduated from the program, with many alumni practicing in rural Midwest locations.

Training takes place at UPHS- Marquette within the clinic and hospital as well as other locations throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The program recently graduated five physicians in June: Jesse Krikorian, MD; Frank Sagato, MD; Ian Smith, MD; Kristi Wegener, MD; Aaron Wu, DO; and Andrew Layne, MD, will graduate in October.

The UP Health System – Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program works in conjunction with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, UP Education Corporation to coordinate the training of Family Medicine residents, MSU College of Human Medicine, UP Campus medical students, and MSU Psychiatry UP Rural Track residents.

Since its inception in 1974, 233 (234 in October) family medicine residents, five psychiatry residents, and 340 medical students have graduated from the programs.
