MARQUETTE — While an Alzheimer’s Disease diagnosis can be a difficult and scary time for friends and family of those receiving the diagnosis, a supportive community can help to make things a bit easier and the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan shown their support in the Upper Peninsula after opening a new chapter office based in the Marquette area.

Last week, the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter celebrated the opening of the new Marquette office by holding an open house, which allowed individuals in the area whose lives have been affected by Alzheimer’s to connect with the association, while learning about the many resources available in the area.

The nonprofit Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan works to support and educate individuals and families dealing with Alzheimer’s and related dementia.

The new Marquette office, located at 1229 W. Washington St., Suite 6 in Marquette is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon and has plenty of information on their website, found below, regarding the many services and resources provided by the organization.

The opening of the new office coincides with one of the areas biggest Alzheimer’s events: the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The lead up to this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is well and truly underway, with registration for teams and individuals interested in joining the event currently open.

The yearly walk is an international event and is designed to raise money for research in an effort to beat the disease.

The 2023 edition of the Marquette walk gets kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Ellwood Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Downtown Marquette.

Anyone interested in joining the walk is required to register and while there is no registration fee for the walk, the association asks anyone participating to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds.

Registration for the event is currently open and can be found online at https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2023/MI-GreaterMichigan?pg=entry&fr_id=16628

The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. the day of the event and registration ends at 9 a.m.
