Chamber Chat: GINCC welcomes new intern

Jake Johnson

Hello everyone! My name is Jake Johnson, and I am proud to introduce myself as the newest marketing intern at the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce.

I am a senior at Westwood High School and have lived in the Upper Peninsula for my whole life. I love everything it has to offer and will be staying here for many years to come.

Next fall, I will be attending Northern Michigan University and am intending to major in Entrepreneurship and/or Business Marketing. I will receive a great understanding of both fields at the Chamber, using my time to learn about how their members got their start, and how they are able to maintain their businesses.

At Westwood, I have participated in cross country, track and field, bowling, golf, Ping Pong Club, Business Professionals of America, Spanish Club, and National Honors Society. Outside of school, I enjoy running, weight lifting, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, and reading.

Utilizing all of the natural beauties Marquette County has to offer, such as waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and running trails, has made me more than thankful for those who help to maintain them. Our community is truly special. Not only do people realize what an amazing area they live in, they help make it accessible to others.

I love being outdoors, and I want to make sure I can do my part to make it accessible for everyone in, and outside of our community. An internship at the Chamber will allow me to play a part in the community as they have for over 10 years. This is why I am so excited for the opportunity to learn here at the GINCC.

I look forward to the opportunities I will be given by the Chamber, from helping with community events, building a business profile on each of the Chamber members, and being out in the community in order to see how big of a role the GINCC plays in the functionality of our area. I can’t wait for everything this internship has to offer, and I look forward to working with the community as well as the Chamber members.
