Dr. Buck joins Marquette Family Medicine residency program

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program has announced Dr. Meredith Buck as its newest faculty member.

Buck, who is board certified in family medicine, attended the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where she served as co-chief resident during her senior academic year. During residency, she was a member of the Quality & Safety and Mayo Clinic Northwest Wisconsin Education Committees.

Buck earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee where she was chosen to be Track Liaison by colleagues for her excellent communication skills. Buck was a University Honors student, James B. Angell Scholar at the University of Michigan receiving a Bachelor of Science in Spanish and a Minor in Chemistry during her undergraduate studies.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Buck join us at long last (we interviewed and hired her a year ago), and are glad she’s back in the UP,” said Program Director Dr. Brian Waite. “She’ll be a great addition to our faculty, and we’re excited to see what she can bring us from her training at the Mayo Clinic.”

Throughout residency, Buck received numerous awards, including: Daymaker Award, nominated by a patient for the inclusive and excellent patient care she provided; Society of Teachers of Family Medicine 2021 Resident Teacher Award; Associate of Family Medicine Residency Directors & North American Primary Care Research Group Family Medicine Award for Scholarship; Robert Forrest Watson Service Award; Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency – Eau Claire Synergy Award; Mayo International Health Program Scholarship Award; The Founders Award of the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians, and recognition in the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program for her thorough charting and great communication.

Raised in Gwinn, Michigan, Buck is happy to be returning to the Upper Peninsula.

“I am honored to return to my UP community,” she said, “and help train the next generation of awesome family physicians!”

Outside of work Dr. Buck enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing basketball, and many outdoor activities including biking, skiing, hiking, and kayaking.

“We are delighted to have Meredith join the team to offer her services to Marquette and the UP,” said Associate Program Director, Dr. Ryan Brang. “Her full-spectrum focus fits in perfectly with our educational model and her skills in OB/prenatal care, hospital medicine, outpatient medicine and procedures will be a great asset to the residents and her patients.”

Buck began her new role as faculty member on Aug. 1 Her responsibilities include training residents in full-spectrum family medicine, supervising them on the OB floor, the inpatient units, the nursing home and in the clinic.
