Chamber Chat: GINCC to hold application drive

Anyone who has been unemployed recently can attest to the fact that filling out job applications can feel like a full-time job. At the same time, many would-be employers have been struggling to fill open positions. The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce (GINCC) Application Drive, organized by Michigan Works!, aims to streamline the process for both parties.

Michigan Works! has conducted a series of similar events across the Upper Peninsula. GINCC Executive Director, Bob Hendrickson, contacted Michigan Works! about bringing one of these events to the West End of Marquette County. The GINCC Application Drive will take place Thursday, September 16th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the GINCC office, which is located at 910 U.S. Highway 41, West, Ishpeming, MI 49849.

How does this help employers? Like a traditional job fair, Michigan Works! Application Drive is an efficient way to generate a large number of applications. Unlike a traditional job fair, the employer doesn’t have to be present for the event. Michigan Works! takes care of collecting applications. There is no cost to the businesses–all they have to do is register. Visit gincc.org to find a link to the registration form.

Applying for jobs can be a grueling process, but Michigan Works! makes things easier. All the applicant has to do is show up at GINCC between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 16th. They will be given a list of over twenty-five businesses taking part in the event. Instead of filling out multiple more or less identical applications, the applicant fills out just one. Michigan Works! will send copies to employers of the applicant’s choosing. If any of the selected employers requires an online application, the applicant will be given an opportunity to fill out the online form at the event.

The GINCC Application Drive is designed to connect job-seekers with employers. Events like this contribute to GINCC’s efforts to promote great businesses, great neighborhoods and great places to experience Western Marquette County. Questions about the event may be addressed to Michigan Works! by calling 800-285-9675.
