Boomus is new medical director for occupational medicine at UPHS

MARQUETTE — UP Health System is welcoming Catherine Boomus, MD, MPH, FACOEM, to its occupational medicine team as the medical director overseeing Bell, Escanaba, and Marquette occupational medicine services. Boomus joins UPHS from St. Joseph, MI, where she served as the Occupational Medicine Director for Spectrum Health Lakeland.

Boomus received a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering from Michigan Technological University before earning her Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University. She completed her Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency and earned a Master’s of Public Health from the University of California Los Angeles. Boomus is a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Our Occupational Medicine team is uniquely qualified to understand and meet the needs of our workers, our local employers and industries, and Workers Compensation insurance carriers,” Boomus said in a news release. “Occupational Medicine at UP Health System is eager to provide outstanding occupational medicine services to the community, collaborating with employers to create an individualized program to fit each client’s unique needs.”

Specialists in Occupational and Environmental Medicine are experts in preventing, diagnosing, and treating injuries and illnesses derived from the workplace and the environment. The scope ranges from evaluation and treatment of injuries and illnesses to regulatory surveillance exams required by the Department of Transportation or MSHA. We perform fitness for duty evaluations, causation evaluations, hearing conservation evaluations, asbestos exams, silica exams, as well as drug and alcohol testing services.

Boomus succeeds Dr. Eric Rose, former Occupational Medicine Director who retired earlier this year. She joins Lisa Smith, FNP-C, along with the staff in UP Health System’s other Occupational Medicine clinics. UP Health System  Occupational Medicine provides services at UP Health System – Bell in Ishpeming, the Peninsula Medical Center in Marquette, and UP Health System – Doctors Park in Escanaba.
