Stryker appointed as chief nursing officer at UPHS – Marquette

MARQUETTE — UP Health System – Marquette announced that Christine Stryker, MBA, MSN, RN, has been appointed to serve as chief nursing officer for UP Health System – Marquette. The appointment became effective May 17. Stryker brings to the organization o“ver 25 years of progressive leadership and management experience in nursing, patient services, and business operations,” organizers said in a news release.

Stryker is a “proven chief nurse executive with a background in hospital settings both large and small, urban and rural,” the release states. “She prioritizes quality patient experiences and outcomes, as well as improving staff professional development, education, and support.”

As chief nursing officer, Stryker will supervise patient care, oversee programs to promote patient safety and contribute to the strategy and organizational development of UP Health System – Marquette.

Stryker’s accomplishments in nursing leadership will help in the ongoing management of the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said in the release.

“Christine’s experience will help us to continue to enhance high-quality patient care, support staff professional development, and helping us to fulfill our mission of Making Communities Healthier®”, said Gar Atchison, CEO of UP Health System – Marquette and market president of UP Health System, in the release.

Her experience includes positions as chief nursing officer in both New York and Pennsylvania as well as assistant vice president of Nursing at Montefiore University Hospital in the Bronx, and associate nursing officer at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus in Syracuse New York. She has also worked as a heart center director and a practice administrator for a group of cardiac surgeons.

In addition to a wealth of on-the-job experience, Stryker’s background includes a diverse education. Stryker earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Vermont College of Norwich University. She then earned her Master’s in nursing from the University of Vermont and her Master’s in Business Administration from DeSales University in Pennsylvania.

Stryker looks forward to serving the community, both in Marquette and the greater region, she said.

“There are so many reasons why I look forward to joining UP Health System. When I visited the hospital, I was so impressed. Not only is the hospital campus beautiful, but the staff was so welcoming,” Stryker said in the release.

Stryker also loves to spend time outdoors hiking and biking, she said.

“I have always believed that the U.P. was a wonderful place to live, so my husband and I are thrilled to join the community,” Stryker said.
