New medical fitness, wellness center to open

Terry Tripp

MARQUETTE — Medical fitness is the collaboration and innovation that occurs when exercise professionals work together with healthcare professionals to improve patient care and enhance the exercise experience.

Perform4Life, a division of UP Rehab Services, will be located on the second floor of the new Great Lakes Sports Medicine & Life Performance Institute and will be open to clients in February 2018.

“Perform4Life brings a brand-new service to the region with regards to medical fitness and wellness services. We look forward to working with the healthcare professionals in our community as we develop a center of excellence for the Marquette region and beyond. We will strive toward the implementation of a ‘bridge program’ that will allow us to work with the medical community focusing on areas such as preventable hospital readmissions,” stated Chris LaFave, Executive Director.

Perform4Life will offer individual, comprehensive health, and sports medicine services. Membership is available for those interested in actively tracking their fitness as well as those who want or require medical staff oversight on their journey. Staff will include Dr. J. Bryan Dixon, sports medicine physician at Advanced Center for Orthopedics & Plastic Surgery, who will serve as the medical director for the program.

Medical fitness is a unique option for clients who have never exercised or exercised very little in the past due to chronic health conditions. Programs will be geared towards helping clients improve health and stamina in the areas of cancer fitness, cardiac fitness, diabetes management, functional improvement, orthopedic conditions, fit-for-surgery programs, pulmonary fitness, and weight management. Clients will learn how to reduce their risk factors and improve their health with a regular routine of exercise and wellness.

Members will have access to state-of-the-art TechnoGym® equipment. TechnoGym® is the leader in the fitness and wellness industry, and they provide the best possible fitness equipment, services, cloud- based digital content and programs to help clients achieve maximum outcomes.

Clients will have also access to the mywellness® app, a virtual platform, and cloud-based wellness tracking program that allows clients to access their exercise and lifestyle data from anywhere, anytime. The mywellness® app will easily connect to the medical fitness equipment in the Perform4Life center and will display on any Smartphone, tablet or computer. Clients will always have their medical wellness
