MARQUETTE — Here’s what new at the Peter White Public Library, targeting young readers this week, though all ages might be interested in these:

“Please Pay Attention” by Jamie Sumner — Warning! This book will make you cry.

This chapter book, written in verse, is broken up into two main parts, “Before” and “After.” “Before” is Bea’s day-to-day life, her recounting of her adoption, her day at school, her Little (little kindergarten buddy), her cerebral palsy — just the life of a sixth grader.

Then there is a shooting at her school, followed by the “After.” “After” is guilt about freezing, grief for her lost teacher, fear of closed spaces and not being able to escape. “After” is beginning to recover, trying equine therapy. “After” is opening her backpack again. “After” is discovering what she can do.

Highly recommended read, but be warned, this one will hit you with all the feels.

“The Forest of a Thousand Eyes” by Frances Harding — What a fantastical, peculiar book!

This world is one in which the Forest is a living breathing foe, and humanity has retreated from the Forest on top of a wall into isolated pockets.

One girl, betrayed by a Stranger and pushed to her death, instead travels the wall to the end, meeting different populations who have all found different ways to survive.

A great adventure that stretches the imagination with what-ifs.

“Bird! In Spring: Along Came a Spider” by Raymond McGrath — A cute graphic novel perfect for newly independent readers. A bird and spider become friends, share experiences like using webs to create a nest, and more.

Younger kids who love a gentle graphic novel about unlikely friendship will clamor for this story.

“Minecraft: The Manga” — Calling Minecraft enthusiasts for this brand new Minecraft series!

Kids love Minecraft, and kids love manga — so this is the perfect pairing. With four books available so far, this new series will be well received by kids who have read all the DogMan, Yo-Kai Watch and Pokemon, and need something new.

“Tuck Everlasting: The Graphic Novel” by Natalie Babbitt, adapted by K. Woodman-Maynard — What a great way to introduce a new generation to the classic “Tuck Everlasting”!

The adaptation is true to the original story, with watercolor illustrations that do an excellent job of conveying the mood of the story. Adults who read the original will enjoy revisiting the Tuck’s and Winnifred, and children new to the book might be inspired to hunt down the original book after reading this new adaptation.
