Here are upcoming event at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette:

• April 19-25 — The Peter White Public Library will be celebrating the joy that is public libraries all week long with events for patrons to take part in.

Free coffee day is on Monday, April 20, button-making on Wednesday, April 22, in the Teen Zone from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

Bookmark coloring and interactive art installation (lower level) throughout the whole week. No admission charge.

• Call For Art – Jurassic Art Summer Reading 2026. Calling all young artists — youth of all ages are encouraged to submit art to the Peter White Public Library Youth Services desk beginning May 1 through July 31.

Artists may find inspiration in the Summer Reading: Unearth a Story theme, but are not confined to that theme for their art pieces. We ask that your submissions do not exceed 12 inches in any dimension and that only one art piece is submitted per child.

Submissions can be made at home, school or during a library program. Informational handouts detailing submission guidelines are available at the Youth Services desk.

All submissions will be entered into the Jurassic Art Summer Reading Installation. Art will be installed on the Lower Level Art Gallery wall of the Peter White Public Library starting in July.

There will be a Jurassic Art Reception on Aug. 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. as part of Summer Reading: Unearth a Story.

• 1-ON-1 Tech Coaching for Seniors. Tuesdays throughout April (April 7, 14, 21 and 28) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local History Research Room, Peter White Public Library.

Need help with the settings on your phone or iPad? Want to download travel apps before you leave town? Learn how to make your electronic devices work the way you want, with the help of Christine Ault, retired teacher and librarian, that may also reach into May in the Local History Research Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Call the Reference Desk at 906-226-4311 to schedule a 30-minute session. Please charge your electronic device before each session and bring passwords with you. 

• Director Chat. This Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon and 5 to. 6 p.m., Peter White Public Library Circulation Lobby.

• Write On. Tuesdays throughout April from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.. Peter White Public Library Heritage Room. 

Teens can join PWPL for four weeks of inspired writing in a supportive environment. Each week, a different local writer will engage with attendees to enhance and inspire creative expression. For students in grades 6-12. Registration is required. Please visit pwpl.info to register.

• Yarn Spinners. This Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Peter White Public Library Great Room.

Youth of all ages and skill levels are invited to cozy up and work on their crochet, knit and weaving skills.

Once a month, youth can come to work on creations from home or work on a new pattern with fellow yarn spinners. Some tools and yarn will be provided, and parents are encouraged to attend with their kids to work on projects of their own.

This is a drop-in program; staff will help kids with patterns when able. No admission charge. Children under 8 must have an adult present.

• Township Advisory Council. This Wednesday, meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.

Regular quarterly meeting of the Township Advisory Council of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is open to all.   

• MSHS Jazz Band Concert. This Wednesday, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Peter White Public Library Community Room.

The public is invited to enjoy an evening of wonderful music performed by the Marquette Senior High School Jazz Band, led by MSHS Band Director Emily Morgan-Booth. No admission charge, free ticket are now available at the circulation desk. Limited seating available.

• Pokemon Trading and Gaming. Three of the next four Thursdays, April 9, 23 and 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Peter White Public Library Youth Services Makerspace.

Youth of all ages who are interested in Pokemon card trading and gaming are invited to our new monthly Pokemon Trading & Gaming Sessions.

Kids who attend will be able to trade and play the card game with other kids. Please note that staff do not know how to play the game, so it is not guaranteed that gaming will always happen.

If your child has a friend they like to game with, come together. Kids will also be able to spend time with other Pokemon fans, chatting about Pokemon and looking through their cards.

It’s important to note that trading and gaming will be kid-led. It is highly recommended that parents do not allow their children to bring cards that they do not want them to accidentally trade. • Great Lakes Poetry Festival Marquette Poets Circle: Melissa Faliveno reading. This Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Peter White Public Library Community Room. For adults, including seniors.

In partnership with Northern Michigan University’s Visiting Writers program, Marquette Poets Circle hosts author Melissa Faliveno, former senior editor of Poets & Writers Magazine. Faliveno’s essay collection “Tomboyland” was named a best book of 2020 by National Public Radio and Oprah Magazine, and her debut novel, “Hemlock,” was released in January. No admission charge.

• Repair Cafe. Next Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Peter White Public Library Huron Mountain Club Gallery.

Toss it? No way! The Repair Cafe is back thanks to a partnership with the Marquette Sustainability Coalition. Bring in broken household goods such as appliances, clothing or bikes and skilled fixers will assist you in repairing them. This is a great way to save money, learn valuable repair skills, and reduce your environmental impact. No admission charge.
