New at Peter White Public Library

Books for babies and books for young children just learning to read are so important! They help distil a love of books and reading that will hopefully remain with children throughout their lives. Here are some brand new books great for the baby in your life, and the little one just learning how to read! Easy books, with bright colors and easy words are in high demand, and we have a bunch of new ones!

Board Books for Babies

“Doggie gets Scared”

“Mad, Mad, MAD”

Written by Leslie Patricelli, these books are excellent for toddlers just starting to learn about their emotions and easy techniques that might help them begin to move past those emotions. With her instantly recognizable diaper clad toddler showing (to parents) completely relatable scenarios, these books are perfect for both parent and child as children begin to start feeling more and more complex emotions.

Animals in Underwear ABC

New to our library, this book is a winning first alphabet book. Written by Todd Parr, featuring animals and underwear, how could it be anything else? Toddlers just starting to recognize the alphabet letters will be clamoring for re-reads, enticed by the funny underpants and cute animals. Babies will be attracted to the bright colors and sturdy page flaps. Get ready for some giggles!

This new board book series by author Grace Line is amazing. In board book format, this series is great for young children starting to wonder about concepts such as shapes, how much will fit in something, how to share three things among two children and more. With great tips in the back “Try This” for activity based learning, kids will love these books! Great illustrations with relatable characters.

Easy Readers for New Readers

The following books are all Scholastic Acorn Books. Titles are in full color, with only 1 or 2 easy sentences per page, perfect for very new independent readers who are just starting to try to read by themselves. Characters are adorable, and the books are short-children will want to try to read these by themselves, and these books will increase new readers’ confidence and enthusiasm for reading when they realize that they are able to finish the whole book by themselves.

Princess Truly by Kelly Greenawalt

Princess Truly is a great series for encouraging your strong girl to know that she can do anything she wants. Our adorable Princess Truly has curly hair, likes wearing a tutu, and also like building things, being a supergirl and more! These books are in our Easy Readers Level 3, only a couple sentences per page, with easy repeating words to help build word recognition while learning new words. Titles listed below.

Fox Tails series by Tine Kugler

Series about two cute fox siblings, doing things that siblings do! Kids will love the cute fox siblings, and will relate to sibling problems. These books remind me of elephant and piggie by Mo Willems! With Bumble and Bee being to exuberant and cheerful friends, their friend frog is slightly less so.
