To the Journal editor: The erroneous deportation of Kilmar Garcia should strike fear in the heart of every one of us. The U.S. Department of Justice admitted, in court, that ICE knew there was a 2019 court order prohibiting Garcia’s deportation. Yet, without due process and the opportunity to prove his innocence and his right to be in this country, the U.S. government sent Garcia to a gulag in El Salvador from which he is not likely to ever emerge. To the Journal editor: If you saw the ambush at the Oval Office as I did, we should all be ashamed and afraid. Trump and Vance insulted the leader of a free country which is fighting for freedom and democracy. Rudeness is a sign of weakness, not strength. To the Journal editor: Education is the backbone of democracy, so why is this administration attacking the teaching of history in our schools. History is inclusive to all people, regardless of race, ethnicity or color. It is not exclusive to any race or place of origin. To the Journal editor: University of Michigan, you complied in advance to a dictatorship. You did more than let your students down. You created an atmosphere where foreign students will not dare to enroll and current students will live in fear. You are now part of a domino-set of darkness. We Michiganders are ashamed of you. To the Journal editor: If you look up once in a while, you realize “art imitates life.” In the “Back to Future Part II” movie, Doc Brown discovers Marty McFly stole a 1950-2000 sports almanac from the future. Doc warned Marty not to exploit acquired information for personal gain, doing so would be dangerous. But nefarious Biff Tannen steals the almanac and travels back in time to give younger Biff the almanac.
