MARQUETTE — The Marquette Kiwanis July 4th Parade is coming – fire up Even though it’s May, the Marquette Kiwanis July 4th Parade is right around the corner. Marquette Kiwanis celebrates its 30th year sponsoring the Parade. This year’s theme is "United We Stand." To make this parade another success we need the community’s help. Good news to make you smile

Here’s the good news. My husband went out on his recumbent bike last week, did a few errands on Third Street. (Okay, yes it was a beer run) and returned home along the Lake Shore bike trail. That evening, around 9:30 p.m., there was a knock on the door and a couple was standing there. Recent cuts to the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will have far reaching effects on the health of our nation. We should all be concerned about the irresponsible use of public funds, but sweeping cuts that impact research into Alzheimer's, cancer and infectious disease will decay our ability to treat these conditions. As a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44 I hold a special place in my heart for the parents, siblings, spouses, and friends of those who served.
