Trump policies hurt Main Street

If financial conditions are restrictive, Wall Street sure hasn’t noticed. Stock indexes hit fresh records this week, and speculative meme stocks are back to mania levels. Meanwhile, smaller businesses in the non-financial economy are tightening their belts amid uncertainty over tariffs and the labor market. Trump officials like to say their policies are focused on helping Main Street, not Wall Street. “Wall Street has done very well over the past few decades, and now it is Main Street’s turn to shine,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said last month. Limits on drug ads not so great

Since stepping into the helm at the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done his best to challenge traditional medicine. He has loosened vaccine recommendations for children and pregnant women, peddled baseless claims about the causes of chronic diseases, and championed alternative therapies such as “healing farms.” Now, he is considering two proposals that would make it much more difficult for companies to air television advertisements promoting their drugs to consumers. Take precautions as temperatures climb

With temperatures reaching over 90 degrees in Michigan and even the Upper Peninsula fairly frequently this summer, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services routinely reviews emergency department data about heat-related illness. As daily temperatures rise above 80 degrees, ED visits for heat-related illnesses tend to increase. The callers use this tactic to create a sense of urgency and panic, attempting to pressure individuals to provide personal information. MSP wants to make it clear this is a scam. “The MSP will never call individuals to request sensitive personal ...

Wisconsin’s first West Nile case a warning

Wisconsin health officials are again warning of the dangers of mosquito-borne diseases after detecting the first West Nile virus activity in the state for 2025, on the eve of its normal peak season. A human case of WNV illness has been reported in a Barron County resident in northwestern Wisconsin, and mosquitos collected from Milwaukee and Lafayette counties — both well downstate — have tested positive for WNV. “The first detections of West Nile virus this year are a reminder to take steps to prevent mosquito bites and possible disease. West Nile virus poses a risk to all ...

Wisconsin urges UTV riders to buckle up

As residents and summer visitors alike enjoy Wisconsin’s trails and backroads, officials in that state are reminding utility terrain vehicle, or UTV, riders to focus on safe operation — starting with the simple step of wearing a seat belt. Wisconsin has recorded 23 fatal UTV-ATV crashes so far in 2025. Only five of those individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. UTVs have also been involved in the majority of fatal UTV-ATV incidents this year — accounting for 86% of all ...
