KINGSFORD — Though Mother Nature tried to get in the way, Marquette found enough time to hand the Kingsford High School boys soccer team its first loss of the season in Kingsford on Wednesday.

Trevor Salmon’s pair of second-half goals carried the Redmen to a 3-1 victory at Commemorative Field as the Flivvers fell to 9-1-1. The game was stopped with 4:24 remaining due to lightning in the area.

MSHS opened the scoring with Elijah Pickard’s penalty kick making it 1-0 at halftime.

Salmon scored both his goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, including a Salmon-Pickard teaming on the first one less than two minutes after the game restarted for the second half.

Salmon headed in his second goal, fielding a corner kick from Evan Phillips for a 3-0 margin.

Eleven minutes into the second half, senior Kelby Olson found the net for Kingsford. Ethan LaVarnway was credited with the assist.
