MARQUETTE -- Senior forward Robbie Payne of Northern Michigan University was named the first WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Payne scored four goals on seven shots in the Wildcats' home-and-home split with Lake Superior State.

Two of his four goals were scored on the power play, while another was an empty netter. The senior captain had a plus/minus of plus-3 for the weekend.

Payne is near the top of a number of WCHA and NCAA statistics, including the outright league lead in goals and a tie for the top spot in plus/minus. Nationally, Payne is one of three players with four goals.

Payne was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week twice last season after recording six points, including two goals, in early October and for back-to-back two-goal games in mid-February.

The Wildcats play a WCHA series at Ferris State in Big Rapids at 7:07 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
