Hospice cares
To the Journal editor:
We seek your help in letting your readers know about National Hospice Month and, more importantly, about the services available to them from their local hospices.
The annual Marquette County Bells for Hospice event will occur once again on Nov. 1 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m. at the Marquette Commons, 112 S. Third St., in downtown Marquette.
Local churches will ring their bells at noon to honor all who have died under hospice care, and also, to remember the families and friends who still celebrate the life of their loved one.
The volunteers and staff from U.P. Home Health & Hospice and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice invite our community to come together and help celebrate the preciousness of life and to remember the lives of those we have loved.
A brief hand-bell ringing event will begin immediately after the Church Bells at noon, with a reception to follow. If you have been touched by hospice or would like to learn more, we encourage you to attend.
As you may know, U.P. Who's paying what?
To the Journal editor:
I am writing in regards to the letter to the editor Oct. 9 (entitled "Is Trump's tax plan just?"). The person fails to state that about 10 percent of the people don't pay any taxes and the top 3 percent pay 70 percent of the taxes.
He also doesn't state that the standard deductions are going to double and the child deduction is also going to increase. So much for that I have another topic I would like to talk about.
Why doesn't he complain about all the time off the Congress gets, they work three days a week and take two weeks for a holiday and then take another six weeks for their summer vacation and still get paid for a full year? They only work about six months a year. Also, why doesn't he complain about the Congress people not paying into Social Security like the rest of us that work have to do?
One other thing that really gets me is that we have to buy our health insurance through the Obamacare and they are exempt from it, why is that? Don't he care about that either. He says what is just, I will tell him one thing and that is there is nothing just in this world for anyone.
One other thing that I would like to know and that is who put us in this mess we are in now? Was it the Democrats or the Republicans? Who was in charge of Congress for the past eight years, the Democrats or the Republicans? That is all I have to say.

To the Journal editor:
Congratulations to head coach Kyle Saari and the Negaunee Miners Varsity girls tennis team on a great season. Let's go Miners.
The NHS Miners varsity girls tennis team is No. 1. Great job to coach Saari and the seniors on the team.
The Miners finished the season with 11 wins and zero losses. They won the 2017 MPC title on Sept. 20. Great job!
The NHS varsity girls tennis team won the 2017 U.P. Finals on Sept. 27. They are No. 1.
