Gary L. Bradway

MUNISING, MI – Gary Bradway, 75, of the Munising area, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette following a three year decline.

Born in Rochester, Indiana on August 24, 1942 to David and Loretta (Stubbs) Bradway, he was the eldest of three brothers. Gary graduated from Akron High School in 1960 having played basketball and baseball, and was senior class president. In 1964 he received B.S. degrees from Manchester College in business and history.

On August 29, 1964 he and the former Karen Isenbarger were united in a marriage which lasted 53 years.

Love of the outdoors led Gary to the U.P. where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and riding his motorcycle. Another of his favorite pastimes was evidenced early in his life when he would read all of his text books (except math) prior to the school year. Having read his way through his childhood Carnegie library he carried the habit to the Munising Schools Public Library where he would read everything interesting to him. This tour from A to Z through the book shelves was completed 3 to 5 times.

A true entrepreneur, Gary owned Bradway Motors in Indiana and Gitchee Gumee Lounge and Lanes, Copper Bowl, and Hillcrest Motel in the U.P.

A great extrovert, his sense of humor and sparkling, magnetic personality will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife Karen, survivors include sons Derek (Heather) Bradway of Dollar Bay and Jack (Jackie) Bradway of Jackson, Wisconsin, grandchildren Elizabeth, Levi, Abbie, Maeve, Clare, Ethan, and Lauren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Rick and Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial’s in Gary’s name may be made to the Munising School Public Library at 810 State Highway M-28 West, Munising, MI 49862.

A private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
