On Dec. 4, the Community Foundation of Marquette County attended a merit award/grant distribution event at Powell Township School in Big Bay. At the event the Huron Mountain Club distributed a total of $62,100 in grants and awards to Bay Cliff Health Camp, Big Bay Elementary School, Powell Fire Department and EMT Departments, Peter White Public Library, Marquette Regional History Center, Trillium House, Yellow Dog Preserve, Save the Wild UP, Lakestate Industries and the Big Bay Advised Fund. In addition, $40,000 was reinvested into the Huron Mountain Endowment Fund held at the Community Foundation. Huron Mountain Club members conduct an annual solicitation of their membership that results in their ability to give contribute annually to these nonprofits.
