Michelle JaJoie named executive director of CAAM

MARQUETTE — Chippewa County native Michelle LaJoie was named executive director of Community Action Alger Marquette beginning May 1 after serving at Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Agency for 27 years.

The executive director she is replacing chose to step down to pursue other aspects, LaJoie said.

“My passion is looking to develop and enhance housing areas,” LaJoie said. “I am excited to be a part of the great team at CAAM and an active member in the communities that we serve.”

LaJoie was the Housing Assets Director at CLMCAA and has experience in program managment, grant development and administration and affordable housing, as well as a bachelor of science in business administration from Lake Superior State University.

She is a licensed realtor and certified housing counselor by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

LaJoie has also served on board of directors for the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis Advisory Council and the Michigan Rural Council, among others.

According to communityactionam. org, CAAM offers meals, education and housing services to low income individuals in communities across the U.P.

“I want to get our face out in the community and help people to understand what (CAAM) is if they don’t already know,” LaJoie said.

Through this relocation from Sault St. Marie to Marquette and switch to executive director, LaJoie said she hopes to gain input from the community and continue to promote and build upon the services that the organization provides.
