MARQUETTE -- Bulldozing of open slopes and trails at the Cliffs Ridge ski area, located off Marquette County Road 553 near the Carp River, is progressing rapidly and plans are expected to be released soon for construction of a lodge at the site. A Constam T-bar lift and rope tows have been ordered and will be installed in time to meet the Dec. 15 date slated for beginning operation. The area has been labeled by visiting ski authorities as outstanding among those in the Midwest, and is expected to draw several thousand skiers to Marquette during winter weekends this year. A total of 26 to 32 acres of land is expected to be cleared this year for initial use at Cliffs Ridge, which will feature a skiers' shelter combined with a cafeteria, in addition to a parking lot for 300 cars.
