'BlacKKKlansman' screening held
MARQUETTE -- The Peter White Public Library invites film fans to watch "BlacKKKlansman" at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Library's Community Room on the lower level.
Bring dinner to enjoy this movie in a dinner theater setting with other movie lovers.
During the 1970s Civil Right Movement, Detective Ron Stallworth, an African American, takes it upon himself to infiltrate the local KKK in Colorado Springs. With the help of a fellow Jewish detective who plays his alter ego, Stallworth responds to an ad for the local Klu Klux Klan, setting up meetings and starting a relationship with David Duke. Directed by Spike Lee and starring John David Washington, Adam Driver and Laura Harrier, this 2018 Biographical Crime Drama is rated R and runs 104 minutes.
"BlacKKKlansman" was nominated for 171 awards, winning 34 including an Oscar and BAFTA for best adapted screenplay.

Lynn Hill to give presentation
MARQUETTE -- Rock climber Lynn Hill, one of only a few people in the world to succeed in making an all-free, one-day ascent of The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, will give a presentation at Northern Michigan University.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in 1100 Jamrich Hall. Admission is free for NMU students and $2 for the general public.
Hill was the first to complete an all free ascent of The Nose with a 1994 effort. She had first discovered competition climbing during a visit to France in 1986. Hill quickly moved into the top ranks, winning more than 30 international competitions, including five victories at the Arco Rock Master, the Wimbledon of competitive climbing.

'Taste Tour of the World' events
MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University will host "Taste Tour of the World" lunches at the Wildcat Den in the University Center from Tuesday through Thursday.
Each day will feature cuisine from a different country-France, Germany and Spain-in celebration of World Languages Week. The meals will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are free for NMU students with a meal plan. General admission is $9.75 and children can eat for $5.75. The menus follow:
≤ French cuisine on Tuesday will include beef bourguignon with a baguette, ratatouille, chocolate eclairs and creme brulee.
≤ German features on Wednesday will be pork schnitzel with lemon butter, spaetzle and red cabbage, pretzel bites with craft beer cheese sauce and whole grain mustard, german chocolate cake and black forest torte.
≤ Spanish cuisine on Thursday will include chicken and rice with chorizo, potato bravas with bravas sauce and garlic aioli, tarta de santiago (Spanish almond cake) and churros.

Klava Klub to meet Wednesday
MARQUETTE -- At 6;30 p.m. Wednesday, the Peter White Public Library will host a meeting of its science fiction book group, Klava Klub, at Contrast Coffee, located at 600 N. Third St. Marquette.
For this meeting, the group will discuss the conclusion of Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy, "Imago." Lilith, the Eve of a new race of human-Oankali constructs, has a new child, Jodahs, the first construct ooloi. Since a flawed ooloi can cause irreparable harm to a species, they have left their village to hide in a forest, isolated, even though Jodahs need human contact as it goes through metamorphosis.
Come to Contrast Coffee, grab a cuppa and discuss sci-fi novels old and new. There is no admission charge to attend.
