McDowell joins Brain, Spine Center

McDOWELL

MARQUETTE — UP Health System – Marquette has added Kevin McDowell, PsyD, to its neuropsychology team at the Brain and Spine Center.

McDowell received his doctor of psychology in clinical psychology from the Florida School of Professional Psychology, and his bachelor’s of science degree in Psychology from Northern Michigan University. He joins UP Health System – Marquette from the University of South Florida where he held the position of clinical psychologist.

McDowell completed his postdoctoral fellowship in health psychology at the University of South Florida, where he served as a behavioral health consultant, and completed his clinical rotation in outpatient pain psychology at the James A. Haley Department of Veteran Affairs. He completed his doctoral internship at the University of Central Florida Counseling and Psychological Services Center.

McDowell brings an array of expertise in health psychology to UP Health System – Marquette, including providing crisis services to patients with urgent needs, administration of psychological and cognitive assessments, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

McDowell also brings his experience from his role as an educator at the Florida School of Professional Psychology.

Outside of his work, McDowell is actively engaged with volunteerism, and served on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association and, and has been a team organizer for Habitat for Humanity. In addition to volunteering as a Big Brother, he also served in a leadership role with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hillsborough County.

Originally from lower Michigan and having lived in Marquette for his four years of undergraduate studies, he returns to the Upper Peninsula with his partner Katie and 5-year-old American bulldog, Molly. The three of them enjoy hiking, camping, cooking, and travel in their free time.

Dr. McDowell joins neuropsychologists Dr. Julianne Kirkham and Dr. Amanda Johnson at the UP Health System – Marquette Brain and Spine Center. As a health psychologist, McDowell treats many health related difficulties including: chronic pain management, adaptation to disability, sleep issues, migraines, and co-morbid mental illness.
