Electrical fire battled
ISHPEMING — Firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Ishpeming on Saturday.
Jason Annala, chief of the Ishpeming City Fire Department, said in a news release that the fire department responded to a possible electrical fire at 810 N. Third St. at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the southeast corner of the house.
The fire was upgraded to a structure fire shortly after firefighters’ arrival. Additional units from the Negaunee City Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue 131 were requested for assistance.
Firefighters discovered the fire in the upstairs bathroom. The fire then was extinguished and the building was checked to see if the fire had spread.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The building was occupied at the time of the fire, but all residents got out safely, officials said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Also assisting at the scene were the Ishpeming Police Department, the Upper Peninsula Power Company and the Semco Energy Gas Company.
