PETOSKEY — The Marquette boys basketball team needed a furious rally to come out on top in its season opener Friday at the Petoskey Invitational.
In Saturday’s championship game, things went much smoother for the Redmen as they cruised past Petoskey 53-31. Marquette held the Northmen scoreless in the first quarter and took a 14-0 lead into the second. The Redmen held a 32-10 advantage at the half and stayed ahead by double-digits the rest of the way.
Marius Grazulis led Marquette with 19 points, 19 rebounds and nine blocks. The Grand Valley State commit was named tournament MVP.
Senior Ethan Martysz chipped in 14 points and teammate Bryce Brazeau was named to the all-tournament team.
The Redmen travel to Green Bay Preble (Wis.) Tuesday night.
