BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A couple days after teammates Troy Loggins and Atte Tolvanen picked up weekly awards, Northern Michigan University senior forward Adam Rockwood notched a different one Thursday as he was named WCHA Forward of the Month.

He led the conference with 11 points and 10 assists during NMU’s eight games in February. During last weekend’s sweep of now-No. 19 Lake Superior State, Rockwood scored a goal and had five assists, including a career-high four coming Saturday to help clinch the Cappo Cup.

Rockwood has 14 goals and 75 points during his two years with the Wildcats with six goals and 21 assists this season. Combined with his time at Wisconsin, he has 19 goals and 105 points in his collegiate playing career.

NMU can clinch a home playoff series in the first round of the WCHA tournament when it takes on rival Michigan Tech in a home-and-home series with tonight’s game taking place in Houghton and Saturday’s in Marquette.

Loggins was named WCHA Forward of the Week after a five-point weekend against the Lakers, collecting two assists in last Friday’s 4-2 win, then scoring the first two goals and later earning an assist in Saturday’s 5-3 completion of the sweep.

Friday was his third multi-assist game of the season, while Saturday’s was his most points in a game this season and also his 50th career goal.

Tolvanen, like Loggins a senior, allowed five goals all weekend while making 48 saves — a .906 saves percentage — to earn WCHA Goaltender of the Week.

In his 131st career appearance as a Wildcat, two short of that NMU record, Tolvanen now has 3,345 saves, too.

Loggins’ and Tolvanen’s honors brings Northern’s total to nine weekly awards this season. It was Loggins’ first such award adn Tolvanen’s fourth, tied for most among league goalies.
