Isaiah Johnson

By Journal Sports Staff

BAY CITY — Northern Michigan University men’s basketball player Isaiah Johnson has been on a roll since the season opener and he isn’t showing signs of slowing down.

As a result, the senior earned Great Lakes Intercolliage athletic Conference North Player of the Week for the second time this year. Johnson averaged 22 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during two games at the Thanksgiving Classic last week. He also shot 75 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and was 11 of 12 at the free throw line.

Johnson is currently leading the conference in points per game with 23.8 and is shooting 62.1 percent from the field, while making 56 percent of his 3-pointers. He’s also second on the Wildcats roster in rebounds per game with 5.4. Myles Howard is the current leader with 6.5.

NMU (5-0) is off to its best start since the 1984-85 season and opens GLIAC play this week with a game at Northwood Thursday and another one at Saginaw Valley State on Saturday.
