NMU volleyball loses 3rd straight match

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team made the longest trip of its GLIAC schedule and lost at Ashland in three straight sets on Friday night, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22.

NMU lost its third straight, all in the GLIAC, to slip to 10-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference. Ashland improved to 15-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the GLIAC.

Sophomore Leticia Antunes paced Northern’s offensive attack with eight kills. Senior teammate Maggie Liebeck added seven kills and senior Autumn Monsma added six.

NMU senior Lynzi Svoboda finished the match with 24 assists and seven digs, while senior Rachel Braunschweig had a team-high 11 digs. Monsma, Antunes and freshman Alli Yacko tallied five digs each.

Junior Sarah Kuehn led the team at the net with four blocks. Antunes and sophomore Cierra Martinez both posted two apiece.

In the final set, NMU and Ashland traded leads until the score was 20-20, but Ashland ended the set strong, claiming a 25-22 victory.

NMU looks to bounce back this afternoon at Wayne State.
