Huskies ready to howl this season

Tech men open season at home Nov. 11, women start on road

HOUGHTON — The Michigan Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams recently announced their schedules for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The men’s schedule includes 15 home games as well as the season opener on Saturday, Nov. 11 against Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Huskies then play Lewis (Ill.) Nov. 12 before playing in a two-day tournament in Moorhead, Minn. Nov. 17-18 against Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State-Moorhead.

After that, Tech will have four straight home games. The first two are the Huskies’ last non-conference home games as they face Minnesota-Duluth Nov. 22 and Concordia St. Paul (Minn.) Nov. 25. Both the men’s and women’s programs will then open up their GLIAC season Nov. 30 against Saginaw Valley State and Dec. 2 against Northwood. The Huskies will play their last non-conference game of the season Dec. 19 at Winona State (Minn.).

For the women, they open with three straight road games with the season opener Friday, Nov. 10 against Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) in Pepper Pike, Ohio. The Huskies will hold their home opener Monday, Nov. 20 against Minnesota-Duluth. Other non-conference road games include at Minnesota-Crookston on Nov. 17, at Concordia St. Paul Nov. 24 and against Augustana (S.D.) in St. Paul on Nov. 25.

As far as the rivalry games with Northern Michigan University go, both the men’s and women’s teams will play the Wildcats Dec. 17 in Marquette and they will host NMU on Jan. 27.

Both teams will also have games against the two new members of the GLIAC, Davenport, located in Grand Rapids and Purdue Northwest (Ind.). The men and women play at Purdue Northwest Dec. 9 and at Davenport Jan. 20. They then host Purdue Northwest on Feb. 3 and Davenport in the regular season finale on. Feb. 24.
