Wildcats rough up Finlandia
MARQUETTE – Teams always want to start off on the right foot in their season opener and the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team accomplished that task convincingly on Thursday.
The Wildcats mauled Finlandia 11-0, scoring four goals in the first 25 minutes and taking a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The game might’ve been even more lopsided, considering that NMU held a 49-0 edge on shots, with 28 of their shots being on goal.
Former Marquette Senior High School player Carleigh Hillier led Northern with three goals and an assist. Sophomore forward Alaina Perry had two goals, while freshman midfielder Sarah Tuggle chipped in with a goal and three assists. Perry’s goals came just slightly over a minute apart.
The Wildcats take on St. Cloud State (Minnesota) at 4 p.m. today.
