Wildcats release basketball schedules

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University basketball teams released their 2016-17 schedules recently.

The Wildcats have 14 home games, 10 of which are GLIAC games. The NMU women have a total of 30 games, while the men have 26.

Both teams will open the season at the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Nov. 12-13 with the women’s tournament taking place downstate in Allendale, while the men’s tournament will be held in Romeoville, Ill.

The Wildcats will have their home opener on Nov. 18 with the women taking on Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) at 6 p.m. and the men going up against Minnesota State-Moorhead at 8 p.m. The following afternoon, the women play Minnesota-Crookston at 1 p.m. and then men will follow in a matchup with Southwest Minnesota State at 3 p.m.

Both Wildcats squad host Minnesota-Duluth on Nov 22 and the women will head to the St. Joseph’s Classic in Rensselaer, Ind. Nov. 25-26. Northern plays St. Joseph on the 25th and Wisconsin-Parkside on the 26th.

Northern opens up GLIAC play on Dec. 1 at home against Walsh. After road trips to Ohio Dominican Dec. 8 and Lake Erie on Dec. 10, the Wildcats return home to take on Findlay Dec. 15 and Hillsdale Dec. 17.

After the women host Finlandia Jan. 2, both teams will re-open GLIAC play. They go on a four-game road trip before returning to Marquette for a five-game homestand. During that homestand, they play Lake Superior State (Jan. 19), Northwood (Jan. 21), Ferris State (Jan. 26), Grand Valley State (Jan. 28) and Michigan Tech (Jan. 30).

After another road trip Feb. 2 and 4 to Lake State and Northwood respectively, Northern will have its final home games, taking on Saginaw Valley State Feb. 9 and Wayne State Feb. 11. The Wildcats’ regular season ends with three road games, the last one against Michigan Tech on Feb. 23.

The NMU women competed in their fifth straight GLIAC Tournament last season and finished with a record of 13-16 overall and a 12-10 record in the conference. The men ended their season with a 7-19 record and finished 5-17 in the GLIAC.
