Wildcat runners earn All-Academic honors

By Journal Sports Staff

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team has earned All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Three Wildcats – sophomores Kameron Burmeister and Ine Mylle and freshman Michelle Juergen – received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

NMU was among 117 NCAA Division II women’s track and field teams to receive the team honor.

The same number of schools – 117 – had at least one of the 483 women who were individually recognized.

To be eligible for the team award, a school’s athletes needed a grade-point average of at least 3.00, and the Wildcats maintained a 3.25 GPA standard.

To earn the individual award, a student-athlete had to record a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and post a provisional qualifying standard for either the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships.

The top three women’s teams for the number of individuals recognized were all from the GLIAC – Grand Valley State had 17 and Ashland and Hillsdale each had 12. And Tiffin wasn’t far behind them with 10.
