NMU swimmer medals in Panama

PANAMA CITY, Panama – Men’s swimmer Arnoldo Herrera of Northern Michigan University won six medals while representing Costa Rica at the 2016 Central American Championships.

Herrera won a gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke in 2 minutes, 21.34 seconds, a Costa Rica and meet record. He also anchored the champion 400 freestyle relay, which clocked in at 3:37.93.

Herrera added silver medals in the 50 breast in 30.20 seconds, 100 breast in 1:05.23, 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.

After joining the Wildcats in the second semester last season, the Heredia, Costa Rica, native represented NMU at the GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships, placing ninth in the 100-yard breast in 56.99 seconds and 10th in the 200 breast in 2:04.96.
